Schoolhouse Rocked: The Homeschool Revolution is feature-length documentary, currently in production. The film is intended to encourage and equip homeschool families to start strong and finish well. It follows host, Yvette Hampton as she travels the country with her family talking with education experts, curriculum developers, college and university faculty and administrators, and homeschooling families at every stage in the process, from kindergarten to college graduation and beyond. As viewers follow Yvette on this journey and share in her challenges and victories as a homeschool mom, they will gather the necessary resources and encouragement to homeschool their own children with excellence.

Garritt Hampton – Director
Garritt is a movie industry veteran with credits on some of the biggest movies of the last decade, including
Interstellar, Furious 7, TRON: Legacy, GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, and many more. Following several years of working as a motion control technician in Hollywood, Garritt made an abrupt shift and taught film at a Los Angeles area private school, while producing short documentary content for his church. His time teaching high school and middle school students deepened his love for education and his passion for the creative process. You can view Garritt’s credits on IMDB.
Yvette Hampton – Producer/Host
Yvette’s greatest enjoyment is being a full-time wife and mom. She has been homeschooling since 2011. Her ninja-like organizational skills and outgoing personality make her the perfect producer and host.
In addition to Garritt and Yvette, specialists will be contracted to complete key tasks in production, post-production, marketing, and distribution. In particular, production will hire a production manager with extensive experience in completing similar projects, a composer, a colorist, an assistant editor, a post sound mixer, and a graphic designer.
ACCESS TO STORY AND SOURCES
As a homeschooling family of more than six years, the filmmakers have experienced many of the challenges and victories shared by homeschoolers across the country. Prior to this project, they had developed a sizable network of like-minded families and were deeply involved in their local homeschooling community. As production has progressed and word has spread about the movie, the filmmakers have been welcomed and encouraged by many prominent leaders in the homeschooling movement. The majority of the necessary expert interviews have already been conducted. The filmmakers have also been introduced to several willing college and university professors to finish the necessary interviews. Additionally, while much b-roll footage of families homeschooling has already been captured, many of the families we have interviewed have agreed to allow the filmmakers to return to their homes to film the additional b-roll needed to complete the film.

Andrew Pudewa is the director of the Institute for Excellence in Writing and a father of seven. Traveling and speaking around the world, he addresses issues related to teaching, writing, thinking, spelling, and music with clarity, insight, practical experience, and humor.
Andrew Kern is the founder and president of the CiRCE Institute, the founding author of The Lost Tools of Writing, and co-author of the best-selling book Classical Education: The Movement Sweeping America.
Christopher A. Perrin, PhD is the CEO/publisher at Classical Academic Press, and a national leader, author, and speaker for the renewal of classical education. He serves as a consultant to classical schools and is the director of the Alcuin Fellowship and the co-chair of the Society for Classical Learning.
Connie Albers is a respected speaker and author for NavPress who has served the homeschooling community for 27 years, as well as homeschooled her five children who are all graduates of the University of Central Florida. Kerri DeRenzo, PhD is a WASC administrator and educational specialist at Innovative Education Management, and a former high school and middle school science teacher. Having written her doctoral dissertation on homeschooling and the Common Core, Kerri is an expert in the areas of educational standards and curriculum development. Kerri homeschools her three sons.
Bryan Osborne is a speaker and curriculum specialist at Answers in Genesis. He taught Bible history in a public school for 13 years and, for nearly 20 years, he has been teaching Christians to defend their faith.
Sarah Mackenzie is the best-selling author of Teaching from Rest: A Homeschooler’s Guide to Unshakable Peace, creator and host of the Read-Aloud Revival podcast, and a popular speaker at homeschool conventions across the country. Sarah homeschools her six children.
Janice Campbell is the founder of Everyday Education and homeschooled her four sons from preschool into early college using a lifestyle of learning approach influenced by Charlotte Mason and classical learning. Colleen Kessler is an advocate for the needs of gifted and twice-exceptional children. Kathy Kuhl is the founder of Learn Differently and helps parents teach children with learning challenges. She is the author of Homeschooling Your Struggling Learner, Staying Sane as You Homeschool, and Encouraging Your Child. Rebecca Farris is the CEO of Home Educating Family Association. Principal photography on Schoolhouse Rocked is approximately 75% complete. To date, we have shot approximately 80 hours of interviews with prominent homeschooling leaders. We have interviewed homeschooling moms, dads, and students, at all stages in their journey, from kindergarten to graduation. Filming for the movie has taken place in Washington, Oregon, California, South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Kentucky, Alabama, and Ohio. This has provided a very broad view of homeschooling across the United States and has allowed us to build a base of support in several different regions of the country. We still have a few important areas to cover in filming before we focus on post-production, including more interviews with college professors, staff, and students, short narrative segments with Yvette, and several more street interviews to provide a counterpoint and outside perspective to the main narrative.

Theatrical Premier – Fathom Events
The producers are seeking the promotional budget to enable the exhibition of the film through an exclusive, “One Night Only” Screening with Fathom Events. These events have been hugely successful with similar content, as was recently demonstrated by the unparalleled success of Is Genesis History? This distinctly Christian and narrowly focused documentary had the highest box office receipts for any film on the day of its release, prompting two additional days of exhibition. Once a film has been accepted by Fathom Events, the company provides valuable marketing, including trailers in nationwide theaters, and over 10,000,000 web and social media impressions.
Widespread Digital Distribution – Streaming and Download
Digital distribution of documentary films, through download and streaming, is quickly becoming the standard method for distribution. Distribber.com offers access to all of the major digital distribution platforms (Netflix, iTunes, Amazon, Hulu, Google Play), without charging ongoing fees. This allows the producers of Schoolhouse Rocked to make the film available to a very wide audience, without the necessity of a distribution deal. The producers have budgeted for the initial cost to establish distribution on all of the major digital platforms. However, if a beneficial distribution deal can be negotiated, this cost and effort may be unnecessary.
Special Theatrical Events
While the producers of Schoolhouse Rocked intend to pursue a Fathom Event as the main theatrical release of the film, following release, limited theatrical showings will likely be arranged for churches, homeschool groups, community organizations, and for promotional events. To date, the majority of production on
Schoolhouse Rocked has been funded through an investment by the director and through private donations from enthusiastic supporters. With the completion of this Documentary Film Proposal and the associated Sponsorship Proposal, the funding strategy will shift to raising funds through corporate sponsorships, grants, and crowdfunding. Fundraising for the film will be ongoing until release, but will be concentrated in two main rounds, a production round and a marketing and advertising round.

Film budgets are subject to change based on contingencies, contributor availability and location, delays, any necessary pick-ups or re-shoots, etc. We have accounted for contingencies and have made a concerted effort to budget and schedule realistically and conservatively, and we anticipate that the proportions of the budget will remain approximately the same.
The production budget represents the amount necessary to produce and market a film that will meet the high standards of Fathom Events. The producers have spoken with Fathom Events staff and with producers of previous Fathom Events films and have determined an appropriate marketing budget for a successful release. The production budget represents the costs involved in producing a film that will meet the high production standards of Fathom Events, and it allows for hiring specialists for composing the score, color correcting, editing, and post-production sound. While we believe this is a reasonable and achievable budget, the producers have developed a contingency budget and can complete the film in the event that the whole amount is not raised. A reduced budget would impact the release date and marketing for the film. However, it is the intent of the producers to complete the film to the highest standards, so budget restrictions would be managed to prioritize quality and marketing over release date, possibly resulting in a delayed release.
