Hope for Homeschooling Struggling Learners – Anna Meli, Dealing with Dyslexia

Hope for Homeschooling Struggling Learners – Anna Meli, Dealing with Dyslexia

Anna attended public preschool and kindergarten, but severe dyslexia caused her mom, who knew she was smart and capable, to bring her home in order to keep her from being improperly labeled and segregated by the public schools. While her education wasn’t easy, her mom persisted and finally found a program that allowed her to learn to read. Even though reading is still a struggle and she didn’t learn to read until very late, homeschooling allowed her the freedom to pursue other passions and talents and provided the individualized education that she needed to succeed.

Schoolhouse Rocked Official Trailer, “REST”

Schoolhouse Rocked Official Trailer, “REST”

There’s a new OFFICIAL TRAILER for Schoolhouse Rocked!

Schoolhouse Rocked: The Homeschool Revolution is coming to theaters in early 2019. In this new official trailer Sarah Mackenzie, author of Teaching From Rest and Andrew Kern of the CiRCE Institute give a bit of advice for teaching from a state of rest.

“Jesus didn’t expect the disciples to feed the 5,000. He said, ‘bring me what you have.’ And they brought him this basket of loaves and fish and he turned it into enough for the multitude. Rest, for me, looks like me bringing my basket, just a little bit that I have, and letting him turn it into something more beautiful than I could on my own.” – Sarah Mackenzie

“What I want to say that about rest is that that’s what the Lord has called us to and if you believe that you should be homeschooling your children then you need to ask yourself a basic question. Do you believe that because you’re afraid of something, or do you believe that because you’re called to it? Our Lord has said to us very clearly, ‘if you’re weary and you’re heavy laden come unto me and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you.’ And then he says, ‘my yoke is easy and my burden is light.'” – Andrew Kern

Yvette sits down for a Facebook Live with Durenda Wilson, author of The Unhurried Homeschooler. We had a great time interviewing Durenda and her husband Darryl for Schoolhouse Rocked, at their awesome Airbnb in Mayberry! When I posted the original video it was rotated 90 degrees. Here it is in an actual, watchable (but still extremely overcompressed) format!

We were privileged to be a part of the Classical Conversations 20th Anniversary Celebration, where we were asked to share the world premier of the official trailer for Schoolhouse Rocked! It was an absolutely fantastic night, featuring some great speakers and capped off by an excellent time of worship. God is glorified in Classical Conversations, and we pray he will continued to be glorified for many more years as Classical Conversations helps students to know God and make Him known.

Stories of God’s Goodness, #3

Stories of God’s Goodness, #3

In December, we travelled to Washington to meet Scott LaPierre. He is the Pastor of Woodland Christian Church and the author of a great book on marriage, Marriage God’s Way. God’s power was on display in how we met him and his family, and he provided so well on our trip. On our way to Washington we did not know how many families we would get to interview, or if the trip would be worth the time and cost, but in the end, we interviewed several great families who each had a unique perspective to add to the movie. We also got some great street interviews in Portland. In the end, it turned out to be a great trip, and we know you will be encouraged by the stories of these families.
