Pre-K special education teacher breaks 3-year-old student’s arm

NEW HAVEN, Ct. — “Mary Durso-Smith, 32, of New Haven, is charged by Ansonia police with second-degree assault and risk of injury to a minor. Police say she dragged a 3-year-old boy at Mead Elementary School, and the boy later was found to have a broken arm.”

“New Haven Hospital later found that the child had a fracture to the upper arm, which needed surgery, according to the arrest warrant.” - NBC Connecticut

“Police received a notice from the state Department of Children and Families, the warrant said. That morning, school Principal Amy Cosciello told Rodriguez, Durso-Smith took the boy to the school nurse with an apparent injury to his left arm, the warrant says.”

“camera at the playground, however, showed the boy trying to climb a slide the wrong way at about 9:30 a.m., police said. Durso-Smith grabbed the child's left arm and dragged him back and down to the ground, police say the video showed. While the boy still was on the ground, Durso-Smith dragged him again, the warrant says.”
