Sounding the Alarm: Why We’re Speaking Out About Public Education
This newsletter is a little longer than usual, but I promise—it’s worth the read. In it, I share a personal story that changed the course of our family’s life, announce a major new resource for parents, and highlight a powerful podcast episode that will strengthen your homeschool and your faith.
No matter where you are in your homeschool journey, I hope you’ll take a few extra minutes to read to the end and check out the links. You’ll find encouragement, truth, and tools you can share with others.
Now, here’s where it all started..
What’s the best homeschooling advice you’ve ever received?
A few weekends ago, we were at the Teach Them Diligently homeschool conference in Branson, and I was reminded of the single piece of advice that changed everything for our family.
Back then, we weren’t even homeschooling yet. Our oldest daughter was about to start kindergarten, and we were deep in the “what are we going to do?” phase. Public schools in our area were a mess, and with Yvette pregnant with our second daughter and staying home full-time, private school wasn’t an option either.
We had said—many times—that we would never homeschool.
But as that first day of kindergarten crept closer, our certainty began to crumble.
That’s when a close friend stepped in with some simple, yet life-changing advice. He encouraged us to attend a homeschool convention. Not just Yvette—but both of us. He looked me in the eye and said, “Don’t just send your wife. Go with her. Take ownership and be involved.”
So, we went—together.
At the time, we figured we’d just check things out—maybe homeschool for a year or two and see how it went.
But something unexpected happened that weekend.
God changed our hearts.
We walked into that conference hesitant and uncertain. We walked out completely convinced that homeschooling was the path the Lord had for our family—not just for a season, but all the way through.
And that one weekend didn’t just shape our decision for our children’s education—it launched what has now become eight and a half years of full-time ministry. While we were in Branson, we were reminded once again of how powerful these events can be. Which is why we encourage every homeschool family, and anyone on the fence, to attend a homeschool conference near them!
While we were there, we also met many families who’ve been impacted by Schoolhouse Rocked—the movie, podcasts, and conferences—and we were overwhelmed (again!) that God would allow us to be part of this work.
If you’ve ever wondered how our family made the leap from never homeschoolers to passionate advocates for home education, you can hear our whole story in Schoolhouse Rocked: The Homeschool Revolution. You can stream the movie for free (and share it with friends!) here.
NEW CONTENT AND A COURSE CORRECTION
For years, we’ve hesitated to share the stories we witness daily—the abuses happening in so-called “good” schools across the country.
From the beginning of our ministry, we’ve focused on highlighting the beauty and benefits of homeschooling, intentionally steering clear of the darker realities in the public education system. But over time, that silence has begun to feel like a compromise. After spending years immersed in the world of education, we’ve reached a sobering conclusion: the building is on fire. We can’t stay quiet any longer. It’s time to sound the alarm.
We’re done pretending that the dangers children face in public schools aren’t real. Student-on-student violence, school shootings, sexual abuse, teacher misconduct, LGBTQI+ indoctrination, Marxist curricula, pornography in classrooms and libraries, anti-human environmentalism, anti-Christian religious instruction, anti-American multiculturalism, anti-family sex education, and anti-science gender ideology—these are not isolated incidents. They are systemic. And they pose an existential threat to our children, our families, our nation, and the Church.
That’s why we’ve launched a new section on our website: the House of Horrors: Public School Abuse Archive. Yes, the name is intentionally provocative—it has to be. The stories it contains are far more troubling, but we must wake parents up.
We’re still committed to creating the same Christ-centered homeschool content you know and love. But now, you’ll also have a powerful new resource to share when the time is right. It might just save a life. It will almost certainly save souls.

NEW ON THE PODCAST
Have you ever wondered how to truly center your homeschool on Christ—or felt intimidated about teaching deep subjects like logic, math, or the foundations of faith? Our recent conversation with Dr. Jason Lisle will be a huge encouragement to you. Dr. Lisle joined Yvette to talk about how all knowledge begins with God, why Christian homeschooling needs more than just “Sunday faith,” and how homeschooling can shape an eternal perspective for your family.
What You’ll Hear in This Episode:
Why Genesis Matters:
Dr. Lisle explains why the book of Genesis is foundational to all major Christian doctrines—showing how a literal six-day creation isn’t just a side issue, but central to the gospel and the way we understand sin, death, and redemption.
Integrating Faith Into Every Subject:
Have you ever felt unsure about teaching academic subjects as a Christian? Dr. Lisle challenges the idea that subjects like math or science are “neutral.” Instead, he shares practical ways to connect each learning area to God’s truth. (You’ll even hear how studying math is learning to think God’s thoughts after Him!)
Homeschooling When You Don’t Feel Qualified:
Yvette and Dr. Lisle offer encouragement if you’ve ever doubted your ability to teach your kids—especially when you don’t understand everything yourself. You’ll be reassured that, with God’s help you are equipped to point your children to Christ in everything you teach.
Understanding and Respecting God’s Word:
Do you or your kids ever struggle to understand Scripture? Dr. Lisle shares practical advice for reading the Bible, using different translations, and learning over time. He also talks about cultivating genuine respect for God’s Word—not just as a physical object, but as the living, inspired words of the Creator.
Key Takeaway:
The most important thing we can do as parents is point our children to Jesus—every day and in every subject. You don’t have to be an expert to make Christ the center of your homeschool. With a heart to learn alongside your children you can train your kids to think biblically.
