LAKE MILLS, Iowa. — “Skyler William Ahrens faces charges of sexual exploitation of a minor – cause to engage in act, grooming, and three counts of telephone dissemination of obscene material to minor." - ABC 6 News
Prior to his arrest and resignation, Ahrens was as a gym teacher and track and field coach at Lake Mills Public Schools.
“Court documents state that on Aug. 2, a Winnebago County deputy posing as a 15-year-old girl online allegedly made contact with Ahrens on Reddit.
Court documents allege that the undercover officer indicated multiple times that “she” was 15 years old, but Ahrens requested explicit photos and sent multiple photos himself.” - ABC 6 News
Lake Mills Community School "Superintendent Chris Rogne released a statement acknowledging the formal acceptance of Ahren’s resignation. He said that because it is a personnel issue, the district cannot comment further. He indicated police do not believe any alleged criminal activity involved Lake Mills students.
He spoke further on a need for a review of policies regarding a ‘handful of incidents involving district staff in recent years.’
“We also recognize that this is one of a handful of incidents involving district staff in recent years. In light of that, we are reviewing our policies and protocols to determine if there are additional proactive measures we can implement to further protect our students. We are committed to taking every possible step to prevent misconduct and to ensure swift, decisive action when any concerns arise." - KTTC
